Honest nurses return P65,000 cash, docs
There is no shortage of honest people in times of crisis.
This was proven by two nurses from ParaƱaque City who returned a blue envelope filled with money to its rightful owner who went to the city for a business meeting over the weekend.
Neriel Masueco, 23, and his colleague, Kathryn Hilbero, 22, from ParaƱaque Medical Center, made a good deed out of the P64,000 cash they found unattended in a fast food chain somewhere in Sucat last Tuesday afternoon.
“It was not about luck on my part and my business associate. We will get our money back because there are still people out there who are honest and have a good heart. They are one of a kind,” grateful Gian Carlo Velarde, 24, said in an interview.
“Surprisingly, I did not expect too much that someone will return the money to us but I was wrong. After two days, we were informed that they have our money,” Velarde, a businessman based in Bohol, added.
At noontime, Velarde had a lunch meeting with Chito Hernandez whom he handed over the money and other important documents for their business.
An hour after the meeting, they went separate ways and left the place.
The transaction was almost perfect except for Hernandez, who was in a rush that time to attend to other matters, forgot the thick packet on the table where they both ate for lunch.
He took no exemption of going back to the venue, taking his chances that he might get it back. To no avail, everything was gone and the only thing in his mind was to replace Velarde’s money.
“I really don’t know why he (Hernandez) forgot such a big amount of money. He had his own reasons why it happened. May be it was an honest mistake on his part,” Velarde said.
In talks with Velarde, he said Masueco picked up the envelope and handed it to his fellow nurse. They opened it and found the cash amounting to P64,000 and the documents.
The nurses called the owner through his contact number indicated in the documents. They said they found the money.
The person turned out to be Velarde.
“Laking pasasalamat ko sa kanila lalo na ‘yun kasama ko. This is a blessing to us. We hope that the public will look up to them and emulate their good deeds,” he said.
